Article of August 13, 2012 : The canopy in action!

After coming up against some technical problems, the wait of new pieces in order and the brilliant do-it-yourself of my colleagues: that's it! The new toy of the station is finally functional! It is a canopy net (high net). “Birds have to be careful” this one rises about ten meters high!
Side ringing, mornings are still pretty quiet, obliging us to open lot of nets. However we ringed our first Redstart of the season and our second Spotted Flycatcher!

The canopy net.

Redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus).

Bullfinch, female (Pyrrhula pyrhula).

A big thank you to all my colleagues for the installation of the canopy net. Thank you also to the assistants of this week: Arnaud, Frederique, Gael, Michel and Simon.

Article of August 8, 2012 : It's the nOORRth...

The weather again put itself in "WINTER mode"! Ringing sessions are sometimes very short and because of the rain we are obliged to fold nets as a matter of urgency. Results of the races : our balance sheet is low.
In unusual species, we can note the capture of our second Black Redstart of this season.
Below are pictures of the four currents species of warblers which we can be ring at the station:

To begin, of course, Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla).

The little Lesser Whitethroat! (Sylvia curruca).

Whitethroat (Sylvia communis).

Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin).

Article of August 3, 2012 : Pleasant mornings.

We make, at the moment, ringing sessions with rather satisfactory balance sheets. On Wednesday, we even exceeded for the second time about fifty captures (64 captures): last year, we had to wait late August to have an equivalent balance sheet.
Furthermore, this week we make a bit of diversity with the catches : of one Stonechat in the Trap, one Spotted Flycatcher, one new Green Woodpecker, two Short-toed Treecreepers, two Marsh Warblers and two Great Spotted Woodpeckers this morning.
As usual, some photos:

Short-toed Treecreeper (Certhia brachydactyla).

Spotted Flycatcher (Muscicapa striata).

Stonechat (Saxicola torquatus).
